Mini-Portfolio

First, here are some examples from my sketchbook:

From time to time I do a linocut for a Lunar New Year's card; here's one:
Here's the reverse drawing I did for John Clapp's 112A class:

And here are some films that I've worked on:

Finally, a quick bio: I was born in Cuba, grew up in Florida, got my doctorate in Texas, lived for a few years in Belgium and Los Angeles before coming to San Jose State in 1989. Back in 2000 I started taking drawing classes and have been collaborating with the Animation / Illustration program ever since. For more information, visit my website: www.algarcia.org.

Why a Blog?

If you're reading this then you're probably enrolled in "Physics of Animation" (Art/Phys 123) at San Jose State. Welcome.

As a first homework assignment you've been asked to set up your own blog for the course. You will use that blog for posting your homework and other assignments. You can also use it to interact with your classmates, passing along comments and advice.

I confess that using blogs in this course is something of an experiment. In your homework you'll be creating images and video, which I need to grade. In the past this has been done by turning in printed pages, sending files by e-mail, uploading files to servers, etc. Hopefully using blogs will simplify the process, both for you and for me. But, as I said, this is an experiment so we're both guinea pigs; feel free to send me your comments, suggestions, and advice.

Hope you enjoy the course. See you in class!
